Man stabs girlfriend to death in broad daylight, jabs himself in Panihati
The Baruipur region recently experienced widespread unrest and violence following the rape and murder of a minor girl. Protesters allegedly blocked roads, disrupted train services by uprooting railway tracks, and destroyed government property. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the area on Tuesday, issuing a stern warning that anyone responsible for creating unrest or damage would face strict consequences, which prompted immediate law enforcement action.
Within 24 hours of the Chief Minister's message, the police arrested 20 individuals for their involvement in attacking police personnel and destroying public property. The arrested individuals were produced before the Baruipur court on Wednesday morning amidst heavy police deployment aimed at maintaining order. While the accused individuals and their families deny any involvement in the violence, the Chief Minister stated that around 200 people have already been identified in connection with the rioting.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari further claimed that fundamentalist and anti-national forces, instigated by those who lost the recent elections, were driving the unrest. Additionally, initial police investigations revealed that a suspect who was recently lynched to death by a mob in the area was entirely innocent. The Chief Minister confirmed that this lynching case will also be thoroughly tried and the guilty parties will not be spared.
