Three Afghan nationals have been arrested from the heart of Kolkata on charges of illegally residing in the country using forged Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar and Voter cards. The arrests were carried out by the Bhowanipore Police.
The detained individuals have been identified as Abdullah Khan, Saheb Khan, and Jalat Khan. The Security Control Department initially filed the complaint against the trio, prompting the swift investigation by the Kolkata Police. All three men were produced before the Alipore Court today (Thursday) and have been remanded to police custody until November 6.
Police sources confirmed that the three Afghan citizens had been residing in the city, specifically in South Kolkata, for extended periods while posing as Indian nationals. Their entry into India was initially legitimate: Abdullah Khan arrived in 1995, Saheb Khan in 2017, and Jalat Khan in 2019, all on Afghan passports.
