Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Four workers of the Trinamool Congress have been arrested following a violent clash with Bharatiya Janata Party supporters outside the Jagaddal Police Station in Jagaddal, hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting in nearby Barrackpore. The arrests came after police conducted raids at multiple locations targeting around 15 accused individuals linked to the incident.
According to police, those arrested have been identified as Koushik Das, Sikander Prasad, Gopal Routh, and Shyamdev Shaw, while several others managed to flee during the crackdown. The clash reportedly erupted after allegations that political flags and posters put up for Modi’s visit were torn down, triggering tensions between supporters of both parties. The situation escalated quickly as large groups gathered near the police station, leading to heated arguments, stone-pelting, and physical altercations.
Following the violence, security has been significantly tightened across Jagaddal and Barrackpore, with additional forces deployed to prevent further escalation. Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining accused and monitoring the situation closely as polling approaches. The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, raising concerns over law and order during the election period.
