A man has been arrested on charges of murdering an elderly resident in a housing complex at Golabari in Howrah. Police from Golabari station arrested Prasenjit Choudhury alias Sanjit, a resident of Gobardanga in North 24 Parganas, after his presence was recorded on the CCTV cameras of the building. According to police, the accused was taken into custody for questioning and later arrested.
The victim was identified as Asim Dey, who lived in Indira Bhavan, a multi-storey residential building in the Golabari area. He often stayed alone in his flat on the third floor. On Sunday, his body was recovered after police were alerted by residents and family members. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
According to resident Shivkumar Sharma, family members became concerned on Monday morning when Dey’s mobile phone remained switched off for several hours. Around 10 a.m., Sharma went to Dey’s flat and found the door locked from inside. Looking through, he noticed Dey lying on the floor. He immediately informed the family, who then contacted police.
Police reached the spot shortly after receiving the information and recovered the body. The accused was later tracked through CCTV footage of the building and arrested from Gobardanga. Investigation into the circumstances of the murder is ongoing.
