Police arrested an employee of the Durgapur Municipal Corporation (DMC) in connection with a gang-rape case involving a medical student. With this, the total number of arrests in the case now stands at four. The accused, identified as Nasiruddin Sheikh, is reported to be a temporary worker with the civic body.
He was apprehended by the New Township Police after intensive overnight interrogation on Sunday, following the detention of three other suspects earlier in the weekend. The incident was first reported on Friday night, October 10, when the student stepped out of the campus with a friend around 8:00 PM to buy food. She was allegedly dragged into a nearby wooded area in Paran Ganj where the crime was committed.
