No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
In a major breakthrough in a fraud and illegal betting case, Kolkata Police arrested the main accused from a posh apartment in the Lake Town area early Sunday morning. The case was originally registered at Hare Street Police Station, and investigators traced the suspect through technical surveillance.
The accused, identified as Pawan Agarwal, was arrested from the first floor of Rajshree Apartments on Canal Street under the jurisdiction of Lake Town Police Station. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the West Bengal Gambling and Prize Contests Act. During the raid, police seized a Lenovo laptop and six high-end mobile phones from his possession. Preliminary scrutiny of the devices reportedly revealed screenshots and digital records indicating cricket betting transactions worth crores of rupees.
Investigators believe the operation may be linked to a larger international betting racket. The seized electronic devices will be sent for forensic examination to uncover the full network and identify other operatives involved in the illegal activity.
