Kolkata Police have busted a fake international job racket operating out of the Garden Reach area. The scam came to light after a suo motu complaint was lodged by Sub-Inspector R. Molla, resulting in the registration of Garden Reach PS Case No. 110 dated April 16, 2025.
The mastermind behind the operation, identified as Rohan Agarwal (47), a resident of Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was arrested from a fake recruitment call centre located on the 5th floor of B-27, Iron Gate Road, Kolkata. Agarwal, along with his unknown associates, allegedly impersonated proprietors of various fake overseas recruitment companies.
According to the FIR, the accused lured job seekers by promising employment in international destinations and defrauded them by issuing fake visas. Victims were convinced to pay significant sums of money in exchange for these fabricated job offers, with the operation running under the guise of legitimacy through a professional-looking call centre.
During the raid, police seized multiple pieces of incriminating evidence from Agarwal’s possession, including fake visas, numerous SIM cards, counterfeit seals, forged documents, digital devices, and other materials used in the commission of cyber fraud. The items were documented in a detailed Seizure List dated April 16, 2025.
Police confirmed that the accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for the possession of the illegal items, leading to his arrest at 4:34 PM from the premises. Charges have been framed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including impersonation, fraud, criminal conspiracy, wrongful gain, and cyber offenses under the IT Act, 2000.
