NCP leader Baba Siddique shot multiple times and dies in Mumbai Hospital
In Srinagar's Eidgah area, a police officer identified as Inspector Masroor Wani was targeted and shot by terrorists in a point-blank attack. The incident occurred while Inspector Wani was at Eidgah grounds in the downtown area, playing cricket with local boys. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, and the area has been cordoned off as security forces launch an operation to locate the attackers. Preliminary investigations suggest that the terrorists used a police pistol in the attack, leaving the officer in critical condition.
This incident follows closely after a significant ceasefire violation along the international border between India and Pakistan earlier in the week. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured in unprovoked firing and mortar shelling in the Arnia sector. Many villagers had to evacuate their homes due to mortar shells hitting residential areas.
A meeting of top officials from Jammu and Kashmir and security agencies was held at the headquarters of the 15 Corps in Srinagar, focusing on the involvement of foreign terrorists in the region. Official figures indicate that out of the 46 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year, 37 were of Pakistani origin, while only nine were locals. This shift marks the first time in 33 years that the number of foreign terrorists eliminated in the Union Territory has exceeded that of local terrorists.
The Ministry of Home Affairs estimates that approximately 130 terrorists are currently operating in the Valley, with around half of them being of foreign origin.
