Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
The investigation into the murder of Trinamool leader Dulal Sarkar (commonly known as Babla) has made a major breakthrough with the recovery of key evidence. Police have seized three firearms, including one 9mm pistol and two single-shot pistols, which are believed to have been used in the murder. Additionally, seven cartridges and the clothes worn by the attackers on January 2, the day of the murder, have been recovered. These findings are expected to assist in further confirming the identities of the assailants involved.
Dulal was killed on the morning of January 2 around 10:30 AM in the Jhaljhalia area of English Bazar, near his plywood factory. Three assailants, traveling on a motorcycle, opened fire on him in a targeted attack. Despite being taken to the hospital immediately after the shooting, he succumbed to his injuries. Police investigations have revealed that the motive behind the murder was linked to a financial dispute, with the contract for the assassination allegedly valued at 50 lakh rupees.
Following the interrogation of the arrested individuals, seven suspects have been taken into custody. Among the arrested are Tinku Ghosh, Shami Akhtar, and Abhijeet Ghosh. Trinamool’s Malda city president, Narendra Nath Tiwari, and his associate Swapna Sharma have been named as the masterminds of the crime. They are currently in police custody as the investigation continues to determine their full involvement in orchestrating the murder.
Additionally, two other suspects, Rohan Rajak and Bablu Yadav, are reportedly on the run and have been changing locations frequently to evade capture. Authorities believe they have traveled from Siliguri to Nepal and Uttar Pradesh in an attempt to avoid arrest. In relation to the murder, the police have also identified Ashraf Khan, a sharp shooter, as the person responsible for riding the motorcycle used in the shooting. His primary responsibility was ensuring that the murder was carried out successfully.
The investigation also points to financial dealings as a possible driving force behind the killing. Police are exploring the links between the arrested individuals and financial transactions related to the crime. This is part of the broader inquiry into the motives of those involved in the conspiracy. Authorities are continuing to follow leads, and efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects.
