On January 25, the South 24 Parganas police conducted a major operation in the Mograhat area, leading to the seizure of a large number of illegal firearms. The raid was carried out by Mograhat police under the leadership of Officer Piyush Kanti Mandal, with the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar from the Diamond Harbour Police District. Based on actionable intelligence, police targeted Kalapahad Chowk, a locality in Mograhat, and arrested 55-year-old Abdullah Laskar, a resident of the area.
The police recovered a significant cache of weapons, including one pipe gun, five country-made pistols, and 41 rounds of ammunition. The weapons were seized after a thorough search of the area. Following the arrest, Laskar was presented before the Diamond Harbour Sub-Divisional Court, where a case was filed against him under the Arms Act. The police have also started investigating the origins of the firearms to determine whether they are part of a larger illegal arms network operating in the region.
The operation in Mograhat is part of an ongoing effort by the South 24 Parganas police to address the illegal arms trade in the district. This operation follows a similar seizure in Basanti earlier in the week. The authorities are continuing their efforts to crack down on illegal weapons and are working to uncover any potential links between the seized arms and organized criminal activities in the area. Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the weapons trade in the region.
