Police rescued 17 minor girls and arrested four alleged traffickers during a drone-assisted anti-human trafficking operation in the Champabagh prohibited area of Islampur in North Dinajpur. According to police, the operation was launched on Friday night after receiving information that minor girls from Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat had allegedly been brought to the area for trafficking. Authorities stated that drones were used for surveillance for the first time in an anti-human trafficking operation conducted by the Islampur Police District.
According to police, some of the accused attempted to flee after noticing the drone surveillance. However, police personnel who had already been deployed at strategic locations detained four suspects, who were subsequently arrested. During the operation, 17 minor girls were rescued from the location. Police said the rescued girls are residents of Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh stated that the case is believed to be linked to a larger human trafficking network. The arrested accused will be produced before the Islampur Sub-Divisional Court, and police will seek custody to investigate the alleged trafficking racket further. Police have arranged counselling and necessary legal assistance for the rescued girls while intensifying surveillance in border areas and continuing the search for other suspects.
