Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
In a significant anti-human trafficking operation, Kolkata Police have successfully rescued nine minor girls and two adults from a house in the Girish Park area. The rescue operation, carried out by the Bowbazar and Burtola police stations in coordination with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, led to the arrest of six individuals suspected of being part of the trafficking racket.
The police acted on a tip-off received by the Special Task Force (STF) that a group of minors was being held against their will at a residence. Acting swiftly, a team was dispatched to the location to verify the information and conduct a raid. Upon arrival, officers found 11 people, including the nine minor girls, crammed into the house under suspicious circumstances.
Initial investigations suggest that the minors, hailing from various districts of West Bengal, were brought to the city under the pretense of a birthday party. However, it is believed that their actual purpose was to be trafficked to other locations for illegal activities. The rescued girls have been moved to a safe shelter for care and counseling.
Police sources indicate that the suspects lured the girls with false promises of jobs and a better life. The arrested individuals are now being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and identify its masterminds. Investigators are also looking into whether this gang is connected to similar rackets that have been busted in other parts of the state, including North Bengal and Howrah.
