Police seize brown sugar worth ₹15 lakh, arrest two in Siliguri narcotics operation

In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Siliguri arrested two youths and seized around 300 grams of brown sugar during a special operation in the Darjeeling More area. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹15 lakh, marking a major breakthrough in the police’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.

The accused have been identified as Md. Saddam and Raja Mahato. Officers from Pradhan Nagar Police Station carried out the operation late Saturday night after receiving confidential information about suspicious activities in the area. Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the two youths who were allegedly loitering suspiciously at Darjeeling More. During a search, officers recovered a substantial quantity of brown sugar from their possession, following which both suspects were arrested on the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the two had arrived in Siliguri from Malda. After getting down at Darjeeling More, they were reportedly planning to travel towards Jhankar More in a small vehicle when police intervened and detained them. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the wider network involved in the narcotics supply.
