Just ahead of Diwali, Gobardanga police seized over 10 kilograms of banned firecrackers during raids across local markets. Acting on a tip-off, police teams conducted surprise inspections and recovered a large quantity of loud and prohibited firecrackers, including the notorious “Budhi Maa” type.
According to police sources, several traders had been secretly selling these banned items despite restrictions. The crackdown aims to curb illegal sales that contribute to noise and air pollution during the festive season. Authorities confirmed that a formal case has been registered against the accused sellers under relevant legal sections.
The police have launched a detailed investigation into the source and distribution network of these firecrackers. Officials emphasized that such actions are part of a larger effort to maintain public safety and ensure compliance with environmental norms during Diwali celebrations.
