In a routine election surveillance operation, officials seized ₹4.03 lakh in cash from a man near the M.G. Road and Strand Road crossing under the Jorasanko Assembly Constituency on Friday. The action was carried out by a Flying Squad Team (FST) as part of intensified monitoring ahead of the elections.
The individual, identified as Prem Kumar Das (26), was detained by the team led by Inspector Suraj Kumar, along with GST personnel and ASI Samar Ghosh. During checking, the cash amounting to ₹4,03,500 was found in his possession. He claimed the money was related to his business collection. However, the individual failed to produce valid documents or proof supporting his claim at the spot. Following standard procedure under election guidelines, the Flying Squad Team prepared a seizure list and confiscated the entire amount.
Officials confirmed that the seized cash has been deposited at the Kolkata Collectorate Treasury for further legal and administrative action. Authorities continue to maintain strict vigil to prevent any misuse of money during the election period.
