Tension prevailed in Naihati on Saturday after police stopped a bike rally organised in support of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra.
The rally was organised at the initiative of Naihati Assembly convenor Debaraj Pal. According to party sources, BJP leaders and workers gathered at the Nadia Jute Mill intersection in Naihati and began the bike rally as scheduled.
The procession moved along Ghoshpara Road but was stopped by police near the Gauripur Post Office intersection. Police blocked the rally from moving forward, leading to an argument between officers and BJP supporters. The situation soon escalated into a brief scuffle between police personnel and party workers. Tension spread in the area for some time before the police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Despite the confrontation, no major injuries were reported. Police maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent further escalation. The rally was part of the BJP’s wider campaign activities in support of the Parivartan Yatra in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
