BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Saikat Chatterjee, a polling officer, was allegedly brutally assaulted by office staff during an official training session at Debnath Institution in the Ranaghat Dakshin Assembly constituency. The violence erupted when Chatterjee and a few colleagues protested against the display of promotional material featuring Mamata Banerjee and the Digha temple on a projector screen.
The incident is particularly significant as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is currently in force across the state. Chatterjee questioned why political advertisements and government-sponsored visuals were being showcased during a formal training program meant for election personnel. His objection reportedly angered the office staff present at the venue, leading to a physical confrontation.
Following the assault, the injured officer reported that despite the official nature of the gathering, the neutral environment required for election training was compromised. The matter has raised serious concerns regarding the safety of polling personnel and the strict implementation of Election Commission guidelines during the training phase.
