A portion of the balcony of an abandoned building collapsed near the Hanuman Mandir in Ward 18 of Dumdum Municipality’s Gorabazar area. The structure fell directly onto the road but did not cause any injuries as no one was present at the time of the incident. The building is situated along a main road frequently used by pedestrians and vehicles.
Local residents said the building had been in a deteriorated condition for a long time and had already been marked as dangerous. They stated that the structure had shown visible signs of damage earlier. Following the incident, Dumdum Municipality workers reached the spot and started clearing the debris to restore traffic flow and ensure public safety.
Residents of the area have urged the administration to demolish all unsafe and abandoned buildings in the locality. They said repeated appeals had been made to take action before any serious accident occurs. The civic body has not yet issued a statement regarding further structural surveys or demolition plans.
