Posta market shutters down as 50-60 people beat up shop owners

Massive chaos erupted at Kolkata's historic Posta Bazar on Thursday after an angry mob of 50-60 people beat up shop owners and Biswanath Agarwal, the president of the Posta Bazar Merchant Association. He was publicly assaulted and humiliated by an angry mob. In the visuals, Agarwal was seen after having faced an egg-therapy where multiple raw eggs were smashed directly onto him. The confrontation quickly escalated into a high-decibel security scare as hundreds gathered to heckle the trade body chief under a barrage of heavy verbal abuse.

The aggressive crowd repeatedly raised synchronized "Chor" (thief) slogans against Agarwal, openly accusing him of corruption inside the marketplace. Attackers alleged that the association president has been working in active cohort with corrupt political figures.

Following the unprecedented physical assault and the volatile breakdown of law and order, all commercial operations at the wholesale hub ground to an immediate standstill.
