No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A suspicious death in Kolkata’s Posta area has taken a dramatic turn, with police converting the case into a murder investigation and arresting Shikha Singh for allegedly killing her boyfriend Rajendra, alias Vicky Sharma. Initially treated as an unnatural death and believed to be either suicide or a mutual dispute, the case was reclassified under serious sections of murder after forensic and post-mortem findings contradicted the woman’s version of events.
The incident occurred on December 16, when Rajendra Sharma was found lying in a blood-soaked condition after falling from the third floor of a multi-storey building on Shiv Thakur Lane in Posta. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police recovered a blood-stained knife from the scene. Shikha Singh, who was present in the flat at the time, told investigators that Vicky had forcibly entered her house, attacked her with a knife, and later jumped from the balcony.
She was also admitted to hospital with injuries, initially lending credence to her claim of self-defense or suicide. However, investigators soon detected inconsistencies in her statements. The post-mortem report revealed multiple deep stab wounds on Vicky’s chest and back, injuries that experts said could not have been self-inflicted under any circumstances.
Further forensic examination and CCTV footage indicated that the couple had a heated argument on the day of the incident. Police suspect that Shikha stabbed Vicky repeatedly before pushing him off the balcony. With no evidence of a third person at the scene and following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family on December 22, police arrested Shikha Singh on Friday. She is currently being interrogated to determine the precise trigger behind the fatal altercation.
