Postal Dept launches ‘Rain and Tagore’ postcard set to revive letter writing culture

On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s death anniversary, the Department of Posts has released a special set of eight illustrated picture postcards titled “Rain and Tagore.” The postcards are part of the ongoing Forever in Letters campaign, which is aimed at reviving the practice of letter writing and promoting philately — the collection and study of postage stamps and related items.

The postcards depict monsoon-themed imagery inspired by Tagore’s literary works, highlighting the poet’s portrayal of rain as a recurring motif in his poetry and prose. The Department stated that the collection will illustrate how Tagore expressed emotional, poetic, and philosophical dimensions of the monsoon in his writings. Each card merges visuals with literary context to bring out the seasonal essence reflected in his works.

According to the Postal Department, the initiative is intended to present a literary and artistic representation of the monsoon through Tagore’s perspective, while also functioning as a collector’s set. The department stated that the postcards will provide a nostalgic, imaginative, and emotionally engaging experience for readers, aiming to reconnect younger audiences with the aesthetics of handwritten communication.

The Forever in Letters campaign includes postal events across India that focus on literature, culture, and communication. The “Rain and Tagore” set is part of this series and has been described by the department as a creative and emotional addition. The Postal Department said the collection will serve both as a literary tribute to Tagore and as a tool to engage the youth with his monsoon-centric writings.
