In a major infrastructure push, West Bengal Power Minister Arup Biswas announced the inauguration of a 1600 MW power project in Salboni, with another 1600 MW set to follow soon. Claiming that the word “loadshedding” will be erased from Bengal’s dictionary, Biswas said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s policies have ensured uninterrupted power supply.
Alongside the power projects, the state government has approved the creation of “Durgangan” in Bengal, modeled after the popular seaside town of Digha. The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) and the Tourism Department will jointly handle the project, aiming to boost tourism infrastructure.
In a relief for homeowners, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim announced that small land plots, including those as small as half a kattha, will now get sanctioned plans. This decision, approved by the Cabinet, ensures that plan sections will be issued within 15 days.
Responding to a question about political slogans, Hakim quipped that earlier people said “Loadshedding government, no more needed” during the CPI(M) era, but now the slogan is “Loadshedding-free government, no more needed.”
