CPI(M) leader beaten on road in Kharagpur for protesting wall demolition, shirt torn
A pregnant woman and her husband died on Monday after a speeding dumper crashed into their stationary bike at a traffic signal in Mahula, Beldanga. The incident took place while the couple was waiting on the side of the road, according to local sources. Both victims were declared dead on the spot due to the severity of the impact.
Eyewitnesses said the bike was halted at the signal when a dumper approached at high speed and rammed into it from behind. The husband was driving the bike with his pregnant wife seated behind him. The collision caused both to be thrown off the vehicle, leading to their immediate death. The dumper driver reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
Local residents informed the police, who reached the spot shortly after. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Police have begun searching for the absconding dumper driver and have started reviewing available CCTV footage in the area to identify the vehicle and the driver involved.
