Mamata choses Dorina crossing for July 21 rally despite police allowing Brigade ground as venue
Kolkata's prominent wholesale trading hub is witnessing a major administrative transition following the sudden resignation of two top leaders of the Posta Merchants Association. The association's President, Sitanath Ghosh, and General Secretary, Biswanath Agarwal, have formally tendered their resignations from their respective leadership roles.
The decision of the leadership to step down comes in the immediate aftermath of a highly publicized and controversial physical assault on the 73-year-old General Secretary, Biswanath Agarwal. Earlier this month, Agarwal was publicly heckled, slapped, and pelted with eggs by a group of agitators right before an official association meeting, sparking widespread outrage and triggering an indefinite strike that temporarily shut down the entire Posta market.
Although police arrested four individuals in connection with the attack, the humiliation and subsequent political row have reportedly played a decisive role in prompting the veteran trade leaders to vacate their offices.
