Man dies after bomb attack in Murshidabad due to land dispute
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday stated her belief that the widely used Hindi term 'pashu' (animal) is "inappropriate" for animals, advocating instead for the term 'jeevan dhan', meaning "wealth of life." Speaking at the 11th convocation ceremony of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), President Murmu underscored the irreplaceable bond between humans and animals, asserting that life without them is unimaginable.
Highlighting the historical and cultural significance of animals, President Murmu noted that while technology now provides many conveniences, animals were once the primary "saadhan" (means of transportation) and "bal" (force) for farmers. She emphasized that in Indian culture, the presence of God is revered in all creatures, reinforcing the deep-rooted respect for animal life. Her remarks were met with appreciation from the audience, which included students, researchers, and faculty of veterinary science.
During her address, the President also stressed the crucial role of vaccination in preventing animal diseases, advocating for widespread implementation to ensure the health and welfare of animal populations. President Murmu was welcomed to Bareilly by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel, along with Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The IVRI, located in Izatnagar, is a premier institution dedicated to research and development in veterinary and animal sciences.
