In a significant development in the investigation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique's murder, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF), apprehended a shooter named Shiva Kumar on Sunday. Kumar, along with two additional suspects, was detained in Uttar Pradesh and will be transported to Mumbai for further questioning.
Baba Siddique was fatally shot near his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra on October 12 by three gunmen. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
This arrest follows the detention of another shooter, Gaurav Vilas Apune, who was taken into custody by Mumbai Police on Friday. Investigations revealed that Apune was part of a "Plan B" devised by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which reportedly prepared a secondary approach to ensure the assassination was successful. Apune and another accused, Rupesh Mohol, had allegedly traveled to Jharkhand for firearms training to hone their skills ahead of the operation. The training trip, reportedly organized by the alleged mastermind Shubham Lonkar, took place on July 28 and included a cache of weapons for practice.
Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, is believed to be the orchestrator behind Baba Siddique’s assassination. The arrest of Kumar and his associates sheds further light on the elaborate plans and backup arrangements orchestrated by the gang, as investigations into Siddique's murder continue.
