An assistant professor of a private university in Diamond Harbour has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a student by sending obscene messages and allegedly attempting to molest her on campus. The arrest has triggered protests by female students, escalating tension within the university premises.
The accused, identified as Ravikant Bala, teaches in the physiotherapy department. According to the complaint, he had been sending “naughty” and obscene text messages to the student late at night for several days. Despite her distress, the alleged harassment continued. Police said the situation worsened two days ago when the professor allegedly attempted to molest the student inside the college campus. Under severe mental stress, the student finally approached the police and submitted a written complaint on Tuesday.
Acting promptly, Diamond Harbour Police Station registered a case and arrested the accused. An investigation is underway, while the incident has sparked strong reactions from students demanding strict action and better safety measures on campus.
