Firhad Hakim resigns as Kolkata Mayor, says "never wanted to sit on this chair"
A controversy erupted in Pandaveswar after beds, pillows and packets of condoms were allegedly found inside the office of former Trinamool Congress MLA Narendra Nath Chakraborty. The development triggered protests by local residents, who gathered outside the former legislator’s residence and office on Friday, raising allegations regarding the use of the premises and the storage of government materials.
According to local residents, government supplies intended for public distribution had allegedly been kept for an extended period in a warehouse attached to the former MLA’s office instead of being distributed to beneficiaries. Following these allegations, hundreds of residents assembled outside the premises and staged a demonstration demanding answers regarding the stored materials.
During the protest, demonstrators reportedly entered the office premises and claimed to have discovered tarpaulins and other government supplies. As the situation became tense, police personnel and central security forces were deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
The controversy intensified when protesters allegedly found two furnished rooms inside the office complex. According to their claims, the rooms contained beds, mattresses and pillows. Protesters further alleged that multiple packets of condoms were recovered after a drawer inside one of the rooms was opened.
The incident has generated political reactions in the area, with local opposition leaders alleging that such activities had continued for years. The episode has also drawn comparisons with the recent controversy at Surendranath College, where investigators had allegedly found a furnished room and recovered condoms during a separate inquiry. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations connected to the Pandaveswar office.
