Farmers protesting against the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Haryana's Kurukshetra blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway on Monday. They held a mahapanchyat over their demand for a minimum support price for sunflower seeds.
However, influential farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said the farmers are not blocking the highway. In a news interview, he said, "This is not right, highways should not be blocked."
Earlier, wrestler Bajrang Punia was also seen at the protest site. He said he came there to support the farmers. Reports quoted the wrestler as saying, “We too come from farming families. We will stand with the farmers who stand on the roads." He reminded the people that the wrestlers had supported the farmers even during the farmers' protests and would continue to support them.
Bajarang Punia was at the forefront of the protest by wrestlers demanding the removal of WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Earlier, even the farmers stood in support of the wrestlers who asked for the dismissal of the WFI chief. However, the wrestlers have currently suspended their protest till June 15 after meeting Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.
