Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Tension gripped parts of Murshidabad after the death of a migrant worker, prompting villagers to block a national highway and railway tracks in Beldanga. The protest followed allegations by the family that the worker was beaten and hanged in Jharkhand.
The deceased was identified as Alai Sheikh, 30, a resident of Sujapur Kumarpur Gram Panchayat in Beldanga. His hanging body was recovered from a house in Bihar on Thursday. Family members alleged he was killed and then hanged because he was a worker from Bengal.
In protest, locals placed the body on National Highway 12, causing severe traffic congestion on the key Kolkata–North Bengal route. Demonstrators also blocked railway tracks at Beldanga station, disrupting train services on the Lalgola–Sealdah section.
