NCP leader Baba Siddique shot multiple times and dies in Mumbai Hospital
On Sunday morning, protests erupted outside the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Kolkata as investigators took Abhijit Mondal, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, for a routine medical examination. Mondal, recently arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has become the focal point of growing public outrage over the handling of the case.
Several demonstrators, holding placards and posters, gathered outside the CBI premises, chanting slogans demanding justice for the victim. The protestors expressed anger at the police’s initial handling of the case, criticizing the delayed response and perceived inefficiencies in the investigation before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over.
The RG Kar case, which has drawn widespread attention across West Bengal, involves the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, whose body was discovered at the hospital in August. Abhijit Mondal’s arrest has further fueled protests, as many believe the local police failed to act swiftly in the critical early stages of the investigation.
As Mondal was escorted for his medical examination, the protests outside the CBI office intensified, with demonstrators calling for accountability and punishment for those involved in the mishandling of the case. The CBI continues to investigate the matter, having taken charge of the probe following a court order in August.
