Protests by SFI intensify across Bengal, calls for Education Minister’s resignation as clashes erupt

Protests by the Left Front’s student organization SFI continued on Tuesday across multiple universities in Bengal, with demonstrators calling for the resignation of Education Minister Bratya Basu. The protests have been driven by a series of grievances over the state’s education policies, which the student body claims are adversely affecting the quality of education. The protests saw widespread participation from students, teachers, and university staff, many of whom stayed away from their respective campuses as a sign of solidarity.

In Howrah, one of the key locations of the protests, a procession organized by SFI was met with police resistance. Eyewitnesses reported that the situation escalated into violent clashes between the demonstrators and law enforcement, resulting in several students being injured. Police forces allegedly used force to disperse the crowds, and the injured were taken to Howrah Hospital for treatment. Similar protests were held in other parts of the state, including Medinipur and Kharagpur, further intensifying the unrest.

The protests have led to the closure of university campuses, with many educational institutions remaining deserted as both students and staff distanced themselves from the ongoing demonstrations. SFI leaders have reiterated their demand for Education Minister Bratya Basu’s resignation, accusing him of failing to address critical issues in the education sector. The protests show no signs of slowing down, as organizers have announced plans for more demonstrations in the coming days.
