College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
In a disturbing incident, four women were allegedly forced to crawl on the road and perform a humiliating act of prostration before rejoining the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) party in Balurghat, West Bengal.
A video of the incident has surfaced, showing the three tribal women crawling on the road and prostrating themselves before joining the TMC. The women had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a day earlier, but were reportedly forced to rejoin the TMC by party goons who punished them by making them perform the degrading act.
BJP state president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar strongly criticized the TMC over the incident and shared the video on social media. He identified the women as Martina Kisku, Shiuli Mardi, Thakaran Soren, and Malti Murmu, who belong to the Scheduled Tribe community and are residents of Tapan Gofanagar, Tapan. Amit Malviya, BJP leader and co-in-charge of West Bengal, also tweeted about the incident, calling it an attack on tribal women.
This incident has sparked outrage, with many people expressing their disgust and anger on social media. The opposition parties have also slammed the TMC for its alleged high-handedness and use of violence to force people to join the party. The incident is likely to escalate the ongoing political tension in West Bengal, where the TMC and BJP have been locked in a bitter battle for political dominance.
