BJP targets Mamata over Jaynagar girl death; block road at CR Avenue
In a landmark decision, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that the state government will bear the primary responsibility for compensating victims of dog bites. The court mandated a minimum financial assistance of Rs 10,000 for each tooth mark, and in cases where flesh is removed from the skin, the compensation will be at least Rs 20,000 per 0.2 cm wound.
This directive, part of the judgment on a batch of 193 petitions related to dog bite incidents, emphasizes the governments of Punjab and Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to establish committees, headed by deputy commissioners, for the assessment of such compensations. The committees are required to issue awards within four months of claim filing, with the state taking the primary responsibility for payment.
