A bomb threat email targeting the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh and several prominent religious sites across Punjab triggered a security alert on Thursday. According to officials, the email was received at around 8:36 a.m. and threatened bomb blasts at the Secretariat between 1:11 p.m. and 3:11 p.m., prompting authorities to initiate security measures and launch an investigation.
The email also claimed that several Hindu religious sites were being targeted. The locations named in the message included Durgiana Temple, Mukteshwar Temple, Devi Talab Mandir, Maisar Mandir and Kali Devi Temple. Security agencies were immediately informed after the threat was received.
Officials said the message contained references linked to the anniversary of Operation Blue Star and included content that authorities believe was intended to create fear, panic and communal tension. Law enforcement agencies began assessing the credibility of the threat soon after receiving the information.
Following the alert, security arrangements were reviewed at the Punjab Civil Secretariat and the religious sites mentioned in the email. Authorities moved to increase vigilance and coordinate precautionary measures while investigations continued into the origin and authenticity of the threat.
Investigators are currently working to trace the source of the email and identify those responsible for sending it. No suspicious object or explosive material had been reported at any of the locations mentioned in the threat at the time authorities initiated the probe.
