'Pushpa' style 30 liquor cartons hidden in oil tanker, seized by Police

Despite a prevailing liquor ban in Begusarai, smugglers have resorted to ingenious methods, with the latest incident involving the recovery of about 30 cartons of foreign liquor from an oil tanker by the local police. As authorities intensify efforts to curb the illicit liquor trade, smugglers have adapted, using oil tankers for transporting alcohol, exposing a new dimension to the ongoing challenge.

In a recent operation late on Monday, the Excise Department, acting on a tip-off, raided a small tanker near Khamhar in the Mufassil police station area. The surprise raid led to the discovery of liquor concealed in the tanker, prompting the businessman involved to evade capture successfully.

Alongside arrests, the Excise Department conducted raids at various locations, detaining 19 individuals on charges of consuming and selling liquor. Following mandatory COVID-19 examinations and medical evaluations at Sadar Hospital, all detainees were sent to court. Product Superintendent Saurabh Kumar emphasized that, in light of the upcoming New Year celebrations, three teams from the Excise Department are conducting continuous raids. The recent operation resulted in the recovery of 30 cartons of liquor and the apprehension of 19 individuals involved in the illicit trade.
