In Raebareli's Churwa village, a woman named Chandni succumbed to her injuries after being assaulted by her intoxicated husband, Jeetu Singh, following an argument over a house party. The incident occurred on Thursday night when Chandni objected to Jeetu's friends coming over for a drinking session. Despite initial accusations of gang rape by Jeetu and his friends, the police have stated that the post-mortem report did not confirm these allegations, identifying head injuries as the cause of death. Chandni, a resident of Uttarakhand, had been married to Jeetu for two years, during which he frequently consumed alcohol and hosted drinking parties.
Following the incident, Chandni was admitted to the hospital, where she died during treatment. The deceased's sister filed a complaint, leading to Jeetu's arrest. When Chandni's body was brought back to the village, the villagers accused Jeetu and his friends of gang rape, refusing to allow the funeral to proceed until police intervention. The police have assured a thorough investigation into any further claims. The Circle Officer of Maharajganj, Yadvendra Pal, confirmed that no formal complaint regarding gang rape had been filed and emphasized that Jeetu was known to beat his wife while intoxicated.
