RAF deployed as vehicles torched, protests rock Delhi’s Uttam Nagar after man killed on Holi

Tension gripped the Uttam Nagar area of southwest Delhi after a 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute during Holi celebrations, triggering protests, road blockades and incidents of arson.

The victim, identified as Tarun, reportedly died after a clash between two families escalated into violence on the day of Holi. According to police, the dispute began when a water balloon thrown during celebrations accidentally splashed a woman, leading to an argument that soon turned into a physical fight.

Family members said Tarun was attacked later in the night when he was returning home and was not directly involved in the earlier argument. He sustained serious injuries and later died during treatment at a hospital. Following his death, large groups of residents gathered in the locality demanding strict action against those responsible. Protesters blocked roads near the Uttam Nagar East Metro station and torched vehicles, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.

Police deployed additional security forces and erected barricades in the area to prevent further unrest. Authorities said several people have been arrested in connection with the incident as the investigation continues. The incident has heightened tensions in the neighbourhood and raised concerns about safety during festival celebrations.
