Raghav Chadha, 6 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs merge with BJP days after party snub

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Friday announced that he and six other AAP Rajya Sabha members have merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party, citing provisions that allow such a move with support from two-thirds of MPs. The development comes days after Chadha was removed as the deputy leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha.

Addressing a press conference, Chadha said that more than two-thirds of AAP’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs have backed the merger, a requirement to retain membership in the Upper House. He named Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Vikram Sahney and Swati Maliwal among those supporting the decision.

Explaining his move, Chadha said he felt the party had deviated from its core principles and values. He added that the group has submitted signed documents to the Rajya Sabha Chairman formalising the merger, marking a significant shift in parliamentary alignments.
