Rahul Gandhi updates Twitter bio after being labeled "Disqualified MP"

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian National Party (INC), altered his Twitter bio after being disqualified from the Lok Sabha and receiving a two-year prison sentence in the defamation lawsuit brought against him due to his comments about the "Modi surname."

Earlier, the Congressman's bio stated, “This is the official account of Rahul Gandhi | Member of the Indian National Congress” which has now been changed.

The Congress criticized the Narendra Modi-led government for removing Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha, saying it "signifies the systematic and repeated emasculation of democratic institutions by the ruling party" and that he is "paying the price for speaking fearlessly" both inside and outside the Parliament.

Gandhi's disqualification, according to the Congress, is part of a "pattern" intended to stop him from criticizing the Central administration and to draw attention away from more crucial concerns.

A day after Gandhi was found guilty of criminal defamation in 2019 for his comment by a Surat court, the Lok Sabha Secretariat removed him from office as the MP for Wayanad in Kerala.

Gandhi was given bail by the court, allowing him to appeal the court's decision in the Surat sessions court within 30 days. Nevertheless, unlike Azam Khan, who was recently found guilty of using hate speech, Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha remains unaffected by this.
