Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of prioritizing “Mann Ki Baat” over more pressing concerns like unemployment and the status of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a rally in Srinagar, Gandhi expressed discontent with Modi’s approach, stating that J&K had not only been downgraded to a Union Territory but was now under the control of “outsiders” rather than local leadership.
Gandhi noted that Modi’s public persona has shifted in recent months, attributing the change to the influence of the INDIA alliance and Congress. He remarked, “Modi is no longer the same leader he was before the Lok Sabha elections. His mood and appearance have altered,” crediting the opposition for the change. Gandhi further accused the BJP of dividing the nation through communal strife, citing an increase in joblessness under Modi’s administration.
Highlighting the ongoing challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, Gandhi stressed the need to restore the region’s full statehood, criticizing the government’s handling of local affairs. He reiterated his commitment to the region’s democratic rights and pledged to keep fighting for the people.
The second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is slated for September 25, following a successful first round with a high voter turnout.
