Thousands of rail hawkers congregated on Rani Rasmoni Road near Dharmatala today, expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of protection despite the enactment of the Rail Hawkers Act in 2014.
The protest aimed to highlight the central government's policy of not providing security to rail hawkers, who continue to face challenges in their profession.
During the demonstration, rail hawkers prominently displayed posters bearing slogans such as "Crore Costing G20, Hawker Killing 420." They claimed that while the Modi government spends crores of rupees to organise the G20, the shops were demolished during the modernisation of the train station.
Despite heavy rainfall, the hawkers remained steadfast in their protest.
