On Friday morning, a group of railway employees blocked the eastern level crossing at Mankar railway station in Burdwan district to protest an incident involving alleged misconduct by Budge Budge police. The protest started around 9 AM and continued for nearly an hour, causing traffic congestion on both sides of the rail gate. Daily commuters and local vehicles were stranded as the gate remained non-functional during the demonstration.
According to available information, the protest was sparked by an incident on Thursday night when police personnel from Budge Budge allegedly picked up a railway employee by force and took him away in a vehicle. The workers at Mankar station responded by gathering at the eastern rail gate early Friday to demand clarification on the matter and register their opposition to the alleged treatment of the staff member.
Upon receiving reports of the blockade, officials from the Railway Police and Budge Budge police station arrived at the location. After discussions with the protestors and assurances from the authorities, the railway employees withdrew the blockade. By 10 AM, the gate was cleared and traffic movement had returned to normal. No reports of violence or damage were recorded during the protest.
