A sudden shift in Bengal's weather is on the horizon as the Meteorological Department predicts rain from Wednesday. While temperatures have dropped slightly over the last two days, they are expected to rise again before another cold spell sets in next week. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected across South Bengal due to a western disturbance.
On Wednesday, the rain is expected to be scattered, affecting North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, and parts of Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly. The intensity is likely to increase on Thursday, covering all districts of South Bengal. However, heavy rainfall is not expected, and the showers will likely be brief.
Meanwhile, North Bengal continues to experience dense fog, particularly in Darjeeling. Light to moderate fog is forecast in Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda. Visibility issues in the early morning hours may affect daily commuters and transport services.
Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 17.3°C this morning, with a maximum of 27.2°C yesterday. Relative humidity levels remain high, ranging between 27% and 94%, contributing to foggy conditions in certain areas. The fog in North Bengal may persist over the next few days.
The expected rainfall is not likely to bring any severe disruptions, but it will contribute to a slight dip in temperatures post-rain. The weather department suggests that South Bengal will experience cooler conditions from Monday onwards, marking the return of winter-like weather.
