A short spell of rainfall on Wednesday evening caused waterlogging in Kolkata’s Behala Sarsuna area. The rain led to ankle-deep water in several lanes as drains overflowed. Local residents reported that water started accumulating within minutes of the rain due to poor drainage outflow.
Residents claimed that the drains have not been cleaned regularly, resulting in frequent overflows even during light rainfall. “Water doesn’t pass through the drains because they’re always clogged. Even a little rain causes them to overflow,” said a local resident.
According to locals, water remains stagnant for hours after rainfall in the area. They said this has become a recurring problem, particularly during monsoon months, and urged the civic authorities to conduct routine desilting and improve drainage infrastructure.
