Complaints of continuous bicycle thefts were being lodged at the Rajarhat police station over the past few weeks. During the investigation of one such complaint, the police identified a pattern and initiated a focused operation. As part of this effort, a raid was conducted in the Bhangar and Haroa areas, leading to the arrest of three individuals suspected to be involved in an organized cycle theft racket.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anarul Jamadar, Khokan Sardar, and Mohammad Yasin Ali. According to police officials, Anarul and Khokan were directly involved in stealing the bicycles from various locations, while Yasin was responsible for purchasing and further dealing in the stolen goods.
A total of 21 bicycles, allegedly stolen by the group, were recovered during the operation. The accused were brought before the Barasat court on Monday. Police are continuing further investigation to determine whether more people are linked to the racket and to trace additional stolen property, if any.
