Rajarhat youth commits suicide after humiliation, family threatened allegedly by local TMC worker

Tragedy struck the Das Poultry area of Rajarhat when Sushant Bera, a young man, committed suicide after allegedly being humiliated and beaten by local Trinamool members. The incident occurred on October 10, after Sushant’s mentally unstable brother, Bapi, was reportedly taken to the local Trinamool office and beaten up for abusing a party member. Sushant, who went to the office to intervene, was also allegedly insulted and assaulted.

According to reports, Bapi, who has a history of mental health issues, had verbally abused Raktim Kar, a local Trinamool member. That evening, Bapi was taken to the Trinamool office, where he was reportedly subjected to physical violence. Sushant, concerned for his brother's safety, went to the office but was also allegedly beaten and humiliated in front of others. The incident left Sushant deeply traumatized, and on October 15, he was found dead by suicide.

The family, too frightened to speak openly, has remained silent following the incident. Relatives fear retaliation from local forces loyal to Raktim Kar, and even after lodging a formal complaint at the Rajarhat Police Station, they are hesitant to discuss the case further.

Neighbors have alleged that Panchayat member Shubo Sen and Paritosh Ruidas, known associates of Raktim Kar, visited the area afterward, threatening the family and warning locals not to discuss the incident. These threats have fueled the family's fear, leaving them in a state of isolation and shock.

The police have confirmed that a written complaint has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. Sushant’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and authorities are awaiting the preliminary report to determine the exact cause of death.
