Air India Tokyo-Delhi flight diverted to Kolkata over "persistent warm temperature" in cabin
At least four people have been killed and two others sustained injuries after a portion of soil caved in Bharatpur district, Rajasthan, on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred as the monsoon continues to advance into more parts of the state, bringing fresh rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Bharatpur District Collector Qamar Chaudhary confirmed the casualties, stating, "A total of 6 people have been rescued. Four people have been admitted to the hospital. Two people were declared brought dead. Two more casualties have been reported. Two are under treatment."
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and civil defence were immediately rushed to the spot. Relief and rescue operations are currently ongoing to assess the total number of people affected and ensure no one else is trapped.
The India Met Department reported significant rainfall across Rajasthan, with Suratgarh district recording 70 mm and Bassi in Jaipur recording 113 mm in the last 24 hours. Sajjangarh in Banswara district of eastern Rajasthan witnessed the highest rainfall with 130 mm. Meteorologists predict that monsoon activity will remain active for the next two days, with heavy rainfall expected in areas like Pali, Jalore, and Barmer, along with thunder and lightning in Ganganagar, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer. This incident underscores the risks associated with the progressing monsoon, particularly in regions prone to soil erosion.
