Ukil Barman, a Rajbanshi farmer from Sheetalkuchi in Cooch Behar district, was safely brought back to India after being kidnapped and taken to Bangladesh nearly two months ago. The Border Security Force (BSF) played a key role in his return. His safe recovery ended a period of concern for his family and the local community.
Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and Union State Minister of Education Sukanta Majumdar confirmed that Barman was recently handed over to the BSF and that his physical condition is currently stable. Majumdar expressed gratitude toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for their involvement in securing Barman’s release.
Majumdar stated that he had repeatedly contacted the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Prime Minister’s Office to expedite the process. He described the operation as a diplomatic achievement for India. BJP representatives are scheduled to meet Barman and his family to offer support and assurance of continued assistance.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee acknowledged the incident and stated that the responsibility to bring Barman back lies with the state government. Barman was reportedly kidnapped while working in his fields and taken across the border, where he was held in jail in Bangladesh.
The kidnapping had caused considerable worry in Barman’s family and local area. The successful return has been noted as an example of coordination between central government agencies and security forces. The BJP has affirmed its commitment to the safety and dignity of citizens affected by such incidents.
