The Election Commission of India has announced the Rajya Sabha elections to be conducted on February 27 in 15 states, with Bihar and West Bengal holding the highest number of seats. The preparations for this electoral event, encompassing a total of 56 Rajya Sabha seats, have been finalized, as confirmed by the Election Commission.
Notably, the counting of ballot papers will also take place on the same day. Uttar Pradesh leads with the maximum number of seats, with elections scheduled for 10 Rajya Sabha seats. The tenure of 50 Rajya Sabha MPs from 13 states is set to conclude on April 2, along with the tenure of six Rajya Sabha MPs from two states ending on April 4. Consequently, the Election Commission has opted for simultaneous elections for all 56 seats, marking a significant electoral event.
The Election Commission office has provided details on the distribution of Rajya Sabha seats for the upcoming elections. Out of the 56 seats, Uttar Pradesh takes the lead with 10 seats becoming vacant, followed by Bihar and Maharashtra with 6 seats each. Additionally, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh will witness elections for 5 seats each.
Gujarat and Karnataka are slated for elections on 4 seats each, while Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan will see elections for 3 seats each. This synchronized approach aims to streamline the electoral process for the Rajya Sabha seats, ensuring simultaneous voting and counting across the designated states.
